Everything StrongRoom does
StrongRoom is a vault for photos, videos and documents on iPhone. Every feature below works with no account and no network. Each one has its own page with the details and the limits, because a feature you cannot trust is worse than none.
Keep it locked
- Pattern or passphrase. Draw at least six dots on a 5 x 5 grid, or type a passphrase. A passphrase is harder to guess.
- AES-256-GCM encryption. Every item has its own key; deleting the key erases the item.
- Auto-lock and guess protection. The Vault locks when you leave the app (immediately by default) or sit idle for 30 seconds, 1 minute or 5 minutes. After ten tries in five minutes every try waits longer than the last, and a log keeps the last 20 failed tries.
Keep it hidden
- Separate Vaults (Pro). With Pro, each pattern or passphrase opens its own Vault. The app never shows a list. In the free app, with one Vault, a credential that opens nothing still shows an empty Vault.
- Duress Vault. Opening it erases every other Vault on the phone, with nothing on screen to say so. It cannot be undone, and it is a Pro feature.
Get things in
- Import. Photos and videos from your library (the app sees only what you pick), any file from Files, PDFs included, and paper scanned straight to an encrypted PDF. Optionally delete the originals afterwards; it asks every time.
- Private camera. Take photos and video inside the Vault; they never reach your photo library.
Organise and view
- Folders, search and filters. Folders one level deep, search by name across the whole Vault, filter by Photos, Videos or Files, sort by newest, oldest, name or size.
- Viewer and slideshow. View photos, videos and documents in the app, zoom photos, run a slideshow of photos.
Move things out
- Export Package. One encrypted file holding a whole Vault, opened by its Recovery Phrase. The only way to move a Vault to a new iPhone.
- Share Package. Chosen items in an encrypted file, opened by six words or a QR code that you send separately. Optional open limit and expiry.
Get back in
- Recovery Phrase. 12 words, shown once.
- Recovery PIN (optional). 6 to 12 digits, for people who will not write twelve words down. Easier to remember, easier to guess, works only on this phone and only from "Forgot?".
Private by design
- No account, no cloud, no analytics, no ads, no network connections of its own; its App Store label will say Data Not Collected. No account, no cloud, no analytics
- English plus ten languages, light and dark.
What it does not do
No cloud backup or sync. No iPad version in 1.0. No disguise icon. No Face ID unlock. A short list, kept on its own page so it is easy to find. What StrongRoom does not protect against
All pages in this section
- Auto-lock and guess protectionStrongRoom locks when you leave the app, blanks the app switcher, slows repeated guesses and logs the last 20 failed attempts. How each one works.
- Duress VaultA Duress Vault opens like any Vault and silently erases every other Vault on the phone. Pro feature, optional, behind clear warnings, and cannot be undone.
- Encryption you do not have to manageHow StrongRoom encrypts photos, videos and documents: AES-256-GCM, a key per item, and a secret tied to your iPhone's Secure Enclave.
- Export Package: your Vault as one encrypted fileAn Export Package is one encrypted file holding a whole Vault. Save it yourself and restore it on a new iPhone with the 12-word Recovery Phrase.
- Folders, search and filtersSort hundreds of private photos, videos and documents into folders, filter by kind, sort and search. Folder names stay encrypted inside the Vault.
- Import and scan photos, videos and filesMove photos, videos and any file from Files into your StrongRoom Vault, or scan paper straight to an encrypted PDF. The app sees only what you pick.
- English plus ten languages, light and darkStrongRoom speaks English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese (Brazil), Japanese, Korean, Italian, Dutch, Russian and Turkish, in light and dark.
- Separate Vaults, and no list of themWith Pro, keep more than one Vault, each behind its own pattern or passphrase, with no list. The free app has one Vault and an Empty Vault.
- Pattern or passphrase lockOpen your Vault with a 5 x 5 pattern of at least six dots or a passphrase. No Face ID, on purpose. Change it any time without touching your files.
- No account, no cloud, no analyticsStrongRoom makes no network connections of its own, needs no account and collects no data. What that means, how you can check it, and what it costs you.
- A camera that keeps the photo out of your photo libraryTake photos and video inside StrongRoom. They go into the Vault and never into your photo library, so there is no original to delete afterwards.
- Getting back in: Recovery Phrase and Recovery PINForgot your pattern? A 12-word Recovery Phrase, or an optional Recovery PIN, sets a new one on your phone. What each can and cannot do.
- Share Package: send items without sending them in the clearSend chosen photos, videos and files as an encrypted Share Package opened by six words or a QR code. Optional open limit and expiry. No account, no cloud.
- View everything without taking it outOpen photos, videos and documents inside StrongRoom without exporting them. Pinch to zoom, swipe between items, and run a slideshow of your photos.
