What it is

StrongRoom is a private vault for photos, videos and documents on iPhone. It exists because the places most people keep sensitive things, the photo library and the cloud, were not designed to keep them private from the people around you.

Why it works this way

We made four decisions and kept them even where they will cost us users: no account, because an account is a record of you; no cloud, because a copy elsewhere is a copy you cannot control and one that can be compelled; no analytics, because we do not need to know what you keep; and honest limits, because a vault that overpromises gets people hurt. The reasoning is written down in the open: Export Package instead of backup, Pro for room, extra Vaults and the Duress Vault rather than for recovery or the way out, a Recovery PIN that is labelled weaker than the phrase.

What we chose not to build

Cloud backup and sync. A disguised icon. Face ID. Widgets. A break-in photo. An account system. A revocable share that would need a server.

What we have not done yet

No outside expert has checked the app yet, the source code is not published, and there is no iPad version in 1.0. See the limits page.
