An offline photo vault for iPhone, with no account
An offline vault keeps its working copy on the phone, encrypted, with no login and no upload that the app makes itself. The price of that is that nothing is kept for you elsewhere. iPhone device backups are a separate path: StrongRoom excludes its data from them, so you make your own Export Package.
What "offline" and "no account" should mean
The two phrases are often used loosely, so pin them down.
- Offline means the app does not need a network to do its job: importing, opening, locking, exporting. It does not by itself mean the app never connects. The honest wording is "makes no network connections of its own", and that is a claim you can test.
- No account means you never sign in to anything to use the app's vault features. A purchase made through the App Store uses your Apple Account, but that is Apple's system, not an account with the vault's developer.
An app can be offline and still have an account, or have no account and still upload files. Ask about each separately.
What to check
- First launch. Does it ask for an email, a phone number or a sign-in before you can store a photo? If so it is not an account-free vault.
- Airplane Mode. Open Control Center and tap the Airplane Mode button; Apple says this turns off all radios except Bluetooth. Import a test photo, lock the app, unlock it, view the photo. If anything refuses to work, the app depends on a network.
- The privacy label. On the store page, read the privacy section. Apple's support page says the label is reported by the developer, so it tells you the developer's claim. "Data Not Collected" is a stronger claim than a list of data types.
- App Privacy Report. In Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll down and turn on App Privacy Report. Apple says it then shows, for the past 7 days, which domains each app contacted. Use the vault for a few days, then look. A vault that stays silent is consistent with its claim. The report lists domain names and not what was sent, and it cannot prove a negative, so treat it as evidence, not proof.
- Any "sync" or "back up to the cloud" switch. Find out whether it is on by default.
- Device backups. Ask whether the app's data is included in your iPhone's own backups. Both answers are legitimate; a vault should say which it chose.
The trade-off you accept
When nothing is stored elsewhere, nobody else can lose, leak or be forced to hand over your files. Nobody else can restore them either.
- Lose the phone with no copy, lose the vault. The company cannot recover it. There is nothing for it to recover from.
- Forget the credential and lose the recovery secret, lose the vault.
- No second device. There is no sync, so each phone has its own Vaults.
This is why a local vault needs a habit: make a copy you control, and keep it apart from the phone. With StrongRoom that copy is an Export Package, one encrypted file holding a whole Vault. To restore it on a new iPhone you need the package and the 12-word Recovery Phrase; neither alone is enough.
How StrongRoom works offline
StrongRoom has no account, no email and no sign-up. Its App Store privacy label will say Data Not Collected, and the app makes no network connections of its own. Pro is bought through your Apple Account and Apple handles the payment; the app does not send purchase data of its own anywhere. Its data is excluded from iCloud and computer backups, so nothing leaves the phone unless you export it. No account, no cloud, no analytics
What this does not change: an unlocked Vault can be seen by anyone looking at the screen, spyware can defeat any app, and StrongRoom is iPhone only in 1.0. No outside expert has checked the app yet.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a photo vault for iPhone with no account?
Yes. StrongRoom needs no account, no email and no sign-up. Pro uses your Apple Account only because Apple handles the purchase.
Does an offline vault work without iCloud?
Yes. StrongRoom does not use iCloud and excludes its data from iCloud and computer backups.
What if I lose my phone?
Without an Export Package the Vault is gone. Make one and keep it somewhere other than the phone.
Can I use the same Vault on two iPhones?
No. There is no sync. You can move a Vault by exporting it and restoring it with the Recovery Phrase.
