Does StrongRoom work offline?
Yes. StrongRoom makes no network connections of its own, so every feature of the app works in airplane mode: locking, importing, the private camera, viewing, and making or restoring an Export Package. The one exception is Apple's purchase service, which you use only when you buy or restore Pro.
Why
StrongRoom has no account, no cloud copy and nothing to sync. The app has no reason to reach a server, so it does not. That is a design choice, and it is also why the app cannot back up for you: your data stays on the phone until you export it yourself. Because the app does not connect, there is nothing in it that uploads your items, and nothing that needs us to be online.
What to do
- To check for yourself, turn on airplane mode and open the app. Everything in a Vault should work.
- If you want to see what an app contacts, iOS has an App Privacy Report, under Settings, Privacy & Security, App Privacy Report. Apple says it starts gathering information only after you turn it on, and that App Network Activity lists the domains each app has contacted over the past 7 days. Turn it on, use the app for a while, then look.
- When you buy Pro or restore it, be online. Apple handles that step, not us.
- If you send an Export Package or Share Package by Messages, Mail or AirDrop, that other app does the sending. StrongRoom only creates the file.
What this does not cover
Offline does not mean the phone is out of reach of other risks: a copy you sent is a copy elsewhere. Read the limits.
